Cullompton man admits using Russian child abuse website

A pensioner has been sent on a sex offenders course after he used a Russian website to download child abuse images.

Michael Baker, aged 65, was living in Cullompton when he used the internet alias of Groundsman to access the site where users can share videos or images.

Police raided his home and found more than 600 images of which ten showed serious child abuse, Exeter Crown Court was told.

Baker, of Wellington Road, Taunton, admitted making indecent images of children and was jailed for six months, suspended for two years and ordered to attend an internet sex offender’s programme as part of two years supervision.

Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, said the offences were serious enough to merit a jail sentence but he was able to suspend it because of Baker’s age and his previous good character.

He said the public would be better protected by him attending a programme to address his behaviour which had been recommended in a probation pre sentence report.

Mr Ian Graham, prosecuting, said Baker was traced through his IP address after an investigation by Kent police into the use of a Russian file sharing site.

His computers were examined after his home in Devon was raided by police and a total of 658 images were found.

All but ten were at the lowest category but ten showed serious sexual abuse of children. Baker logged onto the Russian site under the name of Groundsman.

Mr Hugh Ogilvie, defending, said Baker should be given credit for admitting the offences and accepting he needed help from the probation service

Man admits downloading child abuse images from Russia

A pensioner has admitted five charges of making indecent photos of children which he used for his own sexual gratification.

Michael Baker was tracked down after an investigation by Kent police into a Russian hosted website for paedophiles.

The 65 year old downloaded pictures of naked girls aged between five and twelve whom he found sexually attractive, Exeter magistrates court heard.

Baker, of Wellington Road, Taunton, admitted making the images between 2009 and 2014 while living in Cullompton, Devon.

The court heard he had no previous convictions and adjourned sentence for a probation report. He was bailed.

He had to sign on to the Sex Offenders’ register.

The court heard there were ten images from the most serious categories and 648 from the lower category C.

He used an e mail address called ‘groundsman’.
