Sex offender who assaulted young girl in supermarket toilets is jailed
A SEX offender who took advantage of a young girl – and was twice spotted exposing himself in other incidents – has been jailed for seven years.
Colin Burton, pictured, 42, of Cranwell Drive, Grimsby, denied assaulting a young girl by penetration on March 8, 2013, but was convicted by a jury after a trial.
The offence happened “for his own sexual gratification” in the toilets of a Grimsby supermarket.
He admitted two offences of exposure on June 15, 2012, and on April 8, 2013.
David Bradshaw, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that two women spotted Burton in his car in Cartergate, Grimsby.
He was committing a sex act as they walked past, he told the court.
He was finally tracked down from his vehicle’s registration plate.
The second similar incident also happened in Cartergate at 10.55am when he was seen by a police community support officer.
His trousers and underpants were around his knees.
Craig Lowe, mitigating, said the offences were at the bottom of the bracket for seriousness and that Burton was at a low risk of reoffending.
Burton was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
He was also given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
