A CHILD abuser who had sex with a schoolgirl he had contacted on Facebook has been jailed for four years.

Bolton Crown Court heard how Jordan Harvey persuaded the 15-year-old girl to meet him and they entered into a relationship.

Harvey, aged 25, was arrested after he was caught with the schoolgirl in a taxi outside his home in Massey Street, Bury on April 12.

Nigel Booth, prosecuting, said even then Harvey kept in touch with the girl until she realised that he had been manipulating her.

The court was told that the three week relationship began in March when Harvey, who was aware of her age, began exchanging Facebook messages and then texts with the teenager.

“These messages are, to some extent, flirtatious,” said Mr Booth, who added that it was Harvey’s suggestion that they meet.

The girl went to his house where the pair had sex on at least three occasions.

Mr Booth added that, after Harvey’s arrest, the girl kept in touch with him believing, at the time, that her parents and the police were being unreasonable but then ended the relationship due to his controlling behaviour.

In a statement read out in court the girl said: “I was in what I describe as a love bubble. I didn’t really understand how serious this was.

“I realise the relationship between me and Jordan wasn’t right and that a 25-year-old shouldn’t really be interested in a 15-year-old.”

The court heard how, when he was aged 14 and 15, Harvey was convicted of sexually assaulting 15-year-old girls on four occasions.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child in March and April this year.

Nicholas Clarke, defending said that although there was a difference in age between Harvey and the girl they were not so different intellectually.

He added that Harvey has only recently given up illegal drugs after years of use.
