Twitter pervert jailed for having half-a-million images

A pervert has been sent to prison for possessing nearly half-a-million indecent images of children and distributing hundreds on Twitter.

The collection of pictures harboured by Richard Meade included shots of babies and animals, Nottingham Crown Court heard today.

Meade, 43, of Fairdale Drive, in Newthorpe, admitted eight charges and was jailed for a total of four years, of which he will serve half and the remainder on licence.

Judge Rosalind Coe ordered he sign the sex offender’s register and be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

“There are significant aggravating features here – the age of the children involved is particularly significant, some were of infants,” said Judge Coe.

Meade had set about deliberately finding and distributing images.

The charges referred to him making and distributing images and possessing prohibited and extreme ones.

Police knocked on his door when he began having sexually explicit conversations on Twitter and distributing explicit pictures among his 20 followers.

He was posting pictures of child porn to a women he was attracted to and she was sending pictures back.

Meade’s vile actions were stopped when he was arrested at his previous address in Eastwood and computer equipment and a phone seized.

He had downloaded 497,783 images in less than a year, the court heard, and had hundreds of videos in his sickening collection.

He said to police he had been viewing indecent images of children since early 2013 and accepted he distributed them to about 20 people.

He searched the internet and used peer-to-peer file sharing.

No other arrests are understood to have been made in relation to the images but police inquiries are continuing.

All his computer equipment and a smart phone will be destroyed.
