Pervert sent 12-year-old girl Facebook messages asking for sex act and to see her breasts

A 20-year-old man sent sexual Facebook messages to a 12-year-old asking to see her breasts and for her to perform a sex act.

Liam Maher, 20, has been jailed after he was caught out by the girl’s mother.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Maher became friends with the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on Facebook and the two began chatting.

He asked her if she would like to meet up with him but the girl’s mother soon learned of their online friendship.

She was concerned he appeared to be far older than her daughter, explained prosecuting barrister Owen Williams, and found he was friends with other girls of her age at the same high school.

The girl’s mother contacted Maher, telling him: “Don’t message my daughter on Facebook again or I will hunt you down.”

But when he persisted she then decided to pretend to be her daughter and reply as if she were her.

Maher asked questions including: “Can I see your boobs?”, “What size boobs do you have?”, and “Can you meet me tonight?”

At one point the girl’s mother and a friend sent a message purporting to be from the 12-year-old asking how old Maher thought she was.

He replied to say he thought she was 15

And he then messaged her to ask if she could perform a sex act on him.

The mother replied: “I am 13, I don’t know how to do things like that. I don’t think you will like me.”

He answered: “Don’t worry how old you are. You are gorgeous. It’s okay, we can just kiss and cuddle.”

Later Maher asked if he could meet her “somewhere quiet”.

Mitigating, Jeffrey Jones said the offence – which took place when Maher was 19 – had come after he broke up with his girlfriend.

Mr Jones added: “It is out of character.

“He is not in any shape or form a sexual predator.”

The judge, Recorder David Aubrey QC, told Maher the offence was serious.

He added: “I accept you are not what is termed a sexual predator.

“I recognise you are regarded as being an immature young man but the fact is young people need to be protected from those who behave in this way.”

Maher, who was charged with inciting a girl aged under 13 to engage in non-penetrative sex, was jailed for 12 months and will be subject to an indefinite sexual offences protection order after his release.

Mayer, of Round Wood, Cardiff, also has to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
