A FATHER who admitted downloading indecent images of children has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Lee Lawrence Wright, 48, will also have to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order to run at the same time.

Skipton magistrates told Wright what he had done was so serious only a custodial sentence would do, before sentencing him to 17 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.

Wright admitted three weeks ago to nine charges of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child in Skipton on or before September 17 last year.

The court heard there were 59 images in total. The vast majority were at the lowest level of severity, but did include one image at the highest level.

Prosecuting, Martin Butterworth said Wright was a man of previous good character and added he had turned himself in to police.

Magistrates told Wright, of Walshaw Street in Burnley, they had taken into account his early guilty plea and that he was a man of previous good character, but they also took into account the age and vulnerability of the children in the images and that there had been systematic searching.

He will also have to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge of £80.
