Former Bishop’s Waltham teacher jailed for raping young boy
A FORMER primary school teacher who sexually assaulted two young brothers, raping one when he was just seven years old, has been jailed for 15 years.
Lloyd Dennis, 33, planned his sexual assaults before he engaged in a number of sick activities with both children over a number of years.
He groomed one of the boys before raping him multiple times between September 2013 and November 2014.
The sexual assaults, which took place at Dennis’ home, have left the youngster struggling to sleep because of nightmares.
Southampton Crown Court heard Dennis blackmailed the older victim by threatening to tell his mother he was smoking.
The former teacher, who used to teach at Bishop’s Waltham Junior School and Cadland Primary School in Holbury, admitted 10 sexual offences against the younger brother when he was just seven years old, including two counts of rape.
The victims were not pupils at the schools Dennis worked out.
Dennis, of Eastleigh, also admitted two sexual offences against the older brother, who was aged between 12 and 14 at the time, and eight counts including making indecent photographs of children and possessing extreme animal porn.
Dennis’ second victim was indecently assaulted between 1997 and 1999, the court heard.
Judge Peter Henry said: ‘In 2007 you qualified as a primary school teacher and you took up a role as a teacher.
‘I accept there is no suggestion that you have sexually abused any pupils, but nonetheless, it’s troubling.
‘Their mother placed considerable trust in you and on the face of it you were trusted with looking after her children. You took advantage of that trust to indulge in the behaviour which amounted to planning and grooming.’
Rob Welling, prosecuting, said the case came to light when the young victim told his mother what had been happening. A victim impact statement written by the mother of the two brothers was read out in court.
She wrote: ‘He was a person I trusted with my children and he was meant to care for them. I now feel like I can not trust anyone any more and I feel guilty I didn’t stop it at the time.’
She said that her son’s behaviour had completely changed and that he ‘has constant nightmares about what happened’.
