A MAN has been jailed for 13-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to three counts of rape.
Kenneth Firmstone, 56, of Trentside Trailer Park in Burringham, was sentenced to 20 years in total – and will serve 13 years, six months in prison.
At his sentencing hearing at Grimsby Crown Court, Firmstone was also given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
Humberside Police said Firmstone was charged in December 2014 and brought to trial in September this year, pleading guilty at his first appearance.
The force, who described Firmstone as a “dangerous offender”, said the offences which came to light were “historic and took place when the victim was very young”.
In summing up, the judge praised the victim calling her “honest and courageous”.
Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Kirsten Hinds, from Humberside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit, said: “Kenneth Firmstone is now serving a sentence which reflects the severity of his offending.
“His victim demonstrated immense bravery throughout our investigation and I am hopeful that she can now move on from this episode in her life.
“Humberside Police is committed to the protection of vulnerable people and will pursue and prosecute those who prey upon them.
“Anyone who is a victim of any form of sexual offence is urged to report matters to police.
“They can be assured of a sensitive and thorough service from ourselves and other relevant partners.”
