A man has walked free from court after he was charged with assault for biting a baby’s bottom

Malcolm Atkins appeared at Derby Crown Court for sentence after pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Sarah Munro, prosecuting, said that, on April 15, Atkins’ was trusted to babysit the four-month-old girl, after the mother went for a night out.

The child was left in the care of Atkins, of Ladybower road, Spondon.

Miss Munro said: “The next day, when her mother took her swimming, she notice a bite mark. She immediately reported it to social services”

In interview, Atkins (21) said that he was looking after the child when she woke. He fed and changed her and said he bit her to make her laugh

Atkins was given a conditional discharge for two years.
