Norfolk bus driver jailed for sexual activity with schoolgirl

A bus driver has been jailed for five years after admitting sexual activity with a young passenger.

Hugh Gage, 36, worked as a bus driver during the time the offences were committed with the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, but who was under 16 at the time.

Norwich Crown Court heard that the victim had a “crush” on Gage and that between May 2009 and May 2011, he twice touched her in a sexual way while the bus was parked in a lay-by near her home.

The matter was only reported to police after the victim told others about what happened when she was on the bus.

Gage, of Rougholme Close, Gressenhall, near Dereham, was arrested and computers containing 28 indecent images of children and also extreme pornographic images belonging to the defendant were found.

Gage appeared in court yesterday to be sentenced having previously admitted two counts of sexual activity with a child, possession of indecent images and possession of extreme pornographic images.

Sentencing Gage to a total of five years, Judge Maureen Bacon said the defendant had “taken advantage” of the feelings the victim “had for him to satisfy his own “sexual pleasure”.

She said the offences involved a “degree of planning” and amounted to an “abuse of trust”.
