Police uncover haul of indecent images of young children
POLICE found stashes of child abuse images after searching a man’s computer equipment, a court heard.
Andrew Johnson, 29, of St Hugh’s Avenue, Cleethorpes, admitted making and possessing indecent images of children between July 2012 and June last year.
James Evans, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that police received information from the Child Exploitation And Online Protection Centre that an internet user at Johnson’s home had accessed illegal images of children.
A search warrant was executed there and a computer and laptop were seized.
He denied knowledge of indecent images of children but admitted that he was the only user of the account and had not shared his security details.
“A total of 106 illegal images of children were recovered from both devices,” said Mr Evans.
The girls involved were aged between four and eight.
Chat log messages that were retrieved showed that Johnson had a sexual interest in children, added Mr Evans.
Simon Hirst, mitigating, said Johnson had shown remorse, was hard working and wanted to tackle his problems.
He admitted being addicted to pornography over a number of years and this had led him to download the material.
He had no previous convictions.
Johnson was given a three-year supervision order, including a sex offender treatment programme, and was given a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
He was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years and must pay £350 costs.
