School governor who had sex with pupil jailed for ONE year
A SCHOOL governor who had sex with a pupil after she developed a crush on him has been jailed.
David Scott, 33, kissed and cuddled the girl and slept with her after her 16th birthday, a court heard.
The pair would kiss in Scott’s car before driving to his marital home for sex.
Scott, a student support worker, also had sex with her in a hotel.
Abigail Langford, prosecuting, told York Crown Court that Scott, who was elected by colleagues as a staff governor, was on a school committee when the girl developed a crush
Scott, who has been jailed for a year, ignored her attempts to engage him on social media but when his marriage fell apart the affair began.
Neither the girl or her mother wanted Scott to be jailed, said Ms Langford, and his defence submitted testimonials from former pupils, parents and staff.
But Judge Rodney Jameson QC said he had to jail him for a year to send a message about “the crucial importance for those in roles of responsibility in relation to young people to withstand temptation”.
Scott, from York, admitted sexual activity with a girl while in a position of trust.
He was banned from contacting her and will have to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
