‘Utterly revolting’ pervert caught with 140,000 indecent images of children

AN “UTTERLY revolting” man who sexually assaulted a young girl when he was 14 was found with 140,000 indecent images of children on his laptop.

Police searched John Maw’s home on September 18, and seized his personal laptop.

The computer was examined and 140,000 indecent images were found.

Hull Crown Court heard there were so many images that police were only been able to examine 90,000 of them because of time constraints

Of the images, 2,285 were judged to be in the most serious category, category A.

Prosecutor Stephen Welch said: “The defendant was arrested and interviewed and made a frank admission.

“He admitted he had indecent images on his computer and said he received them from email contacts.

“He admitted he had a sexual interest in pre-teen females and used the images to combat him carrying out sexual acts in real life.”

The court heard Maw, 28, was convicted of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in May 2002 when he was 14.

Stephen Garth, mitigating, said his client was trying to address his problems.

“There is a problem here,” he said.

“But at least he recognises that and is trying to get the help he needs.”

Maw, of Regent Street, Bridlington, pleaded guilty to six counts of possessing indecent images of children.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC sentenced him to two years in prison.

The judge said: “You have a perverted interest in sexual activity with young girls.

“You have accumulated thousands upon thousands of images of sexual activity with young girls.

“There were so many images that, in the time available, the police have only been able examine a proportion of the images you had.

“You had possession of an astonishing quantity of indecent material in relation to young girls.

“You accept your perverted interest in young girls. It has been my misfortune to read a description of what is depicted on some of the images.

“It is utterly revolting. I am endeavouring to monitor my language and have the least intention to publicly describe what I have seen.

“You must be punished.”

Maw was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
