Man jailed after Facebook ‘friend’ request led to sex with under age girl

A MAN who became a Facebook ‘friend’ of an underage girl and then had sex with her at his home has been jailed for three years.

However, Brian Bond, 26, Cornwall Street, Hartlepool told a probation officer that the schoolgirl had “tortured him” for sex – but changed his tune in court with his barrister stating he was not seeking to blame her in any way.

Teesside Crown Court heard their liaison was interrupted when the girl took a call on her mobile phone asking her to go and babysit.

The matter was eventually reported to the police and Bond was arrested, but no made no comment to the allegations.

He later pleaded guilty to meeting a child after sexual grooming and three counts of sexual activity with a child.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the teenager said she was now an “emotional wreck” afraid to go out and spent her time either at college or home.

She said the experience had turned her from a happy, confident person into someone who frequently felt anxious and scared.

Judge Peter Armstrong said Bond had “buttered up” the girl with internet messages and texts telling her she was attractive.

He told him: “Although this was all with her consent, she was under age and not legally able to consent.

“You knew that, yet proceeded for your own sexual purposes to carry out these acts.”

The judge gave Bond a jail sentence of three years in total. He was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order until further notice which means he cannot have unsupervised contact with any child aged under 16 without prior permission.

Bond, who will have to notify police of his movements, will also be restricted in accessing the internet.
