A Dundee paedophile’s stash of child abuse material was uncovered after he asked his partner’s son to transfer a Star Trek film to a computer drive.

Andrew Miller became nervous as the film was copied to his hard disc, making the relative suspicious, the city’s sheriff court heard.

A court heard he retrieved the drive when Miller was asleep and discovered indecent pictures and videos of youngsters aged between five and 17.

Miller was then reported to police following the discovery on a Christmas time trip to England last year.

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told Dundee Sheriff Court: “His partner’s son had offered to copy a Star Trek film to his hard drive as the accused is a Star Trek fan.

“During this time, he was aware that the accused’s behaviour had changed and he was watching him very carefully, which he found suspicious.

“He was looking for a movies folder and the accused seemed anxious.

“He copied the film over and handed the hard drive to the accused, who appeared to relax.”

Miss Robertson said the partner’s son remained suspicious and later retrieved the hard drive from Miller’s laptop case.

She said: “He then searched on the hard drive for pictures, resulting in him finding numerous pictures of naked male children.

“A total of 42 videos with a run time of 32 hours 46 minutes were found, three of those at category A.

“A total of 377 still images were also found, all were at category C, showing erotic posing.”

Miller, 52, Hepburn Street, admitted possessing indecent images of children at his then home on Hebrides Drive, Dundee, between October 2010 and January 2015.

David Sinclair, defending, said: “He is in full-time employment but whether that continues now that he has tendered this plea remains to be seen. He has been advised of the requirements under the Sexual Offences Act.”

Sheriff Lorna Drummond deferred sentence until December 1 for reports, telling Miller: “These are serious matters and involve you downloading indecent images.”

Miller was also placed on the sex offenders register.
