Man jailed for ten years for committing GBH against Baby
A father who shook his own baby so hard he fractured 10 of its ribs and made it suffer bleeding to both sides of its brain has been jailed for ten years.
James Lewis, aged 25, of Emperor Gardens, Oxford, was sentenced on Friday at Oxford Crown Court after being found unanimously guilty of grievous bodily harm after a two week trial in July
As well as the fractures and subdural bleeding to both sides of the brain, the child suffered multiple retinal bleeds to its eyes, a cut to its tongue and abrasions to the side of the feet during the attack on 15 December 2013.
An X-ray also showed three historical fractures.
Lewis was arrested on 15 December 2013 and charged with the offence on 4 August 2014. He will serve three years on licence after leaving jail.
Despite the terrible injuries, the child has recovered but is continuing to have regular check-ups
