Man faces jail for child abuse images offences

A MAN has been warned he could be jailed after he admitted a series of child abuse images offences.

Ben Thompson, 20, of Thornbury, Skelmersdale, was remanded on bail to await sentence when he appeared at Preston crown cour t.

He admitted 16 charges of making indecent photographs of a child between May 2003 and October 2005.

The court heard that the offences involved 934 images, 81 of which were of level 3 or above.

Seven of the images related to video clips.

Judge Andrew Woolman told Thompson that sentence would be adjourned for the preparation of a background report by the probation service.

He said: “All sentencing options remain open, including custody.”

Thompson will be sentenced on November 6.

In looking at the nature of the material the Sentencing Council has categorised such material into five levels of seriousness with level five being the most serious.

Level one: Images of erotic posing, with no sexual activity;

Level two: Non-penetrative sexual activities between children, or solo masturbation by a child;

Level three: Non-penetrative sexual activity between adults and children;

Level four: Penetrative sexual activity involving a child or children, or both children and adults;

Level five: Sadism/Torture or involving the penetration of, or by, an animal.
