Man, 53, jailed for abusing three girls

A SEX offender has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years after being convicted of abusing three girls

He was originally locked up for nine years but won an 18-month reduction after his defence team asked the judge to reconsider his sentence, a court heard.

John Litchfield, 53, of Mill Road, Cleethorpes, denied three offences of indecently assaulting a girl but was convicted by a jury at Grimsby Crown Court after a trial lasting more than two weeks.

He also denied sexually assaulting another girl and causing her to watch a sexual act but was convicted of the sexual assault.

Litchfield was convicted of sexual activity with a third girl and causing her to engage in sexual activity

He denied raping a fourth girl and two offences of sexually assaulting a fifth girl and was cleared of those charges.

He admitted possessing indecent photographs of children.

Bernard Gateshill, prosecuting, said Litchfield took advantage of one of the girls after plying her with alcohol.

He kissed her on two occasions and, on another, she woke up to find he had removed her clothes and touched her intimately, he added.

Litchfield also intimately touched another girl.

She later told her mother what had happened

He also intimately touched another girl and “invited her to go and watch dirty videos and drink alcohol,” said Mr Gateshill.

He was arrested in March last year but denied any sexual abuse, the court heard.

Litchfield was originally given a nine-year prison sentence after his trial but the case resurfaced four days later at Hull Crown Court when Judge Mark Bury was asked to reconsider the matter.

The prison sentence was reduced to seven-and-a-half years.

Litchfield was given a 15-year sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
