Paedophile jailed for 12 years

A SCUNTHORPE man has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of 12 offences, including attempted rape.

Paul Johnson, 44, of Quebec Road, was found guilty following a trial at Grimsby Crown Court.

He was convicted of:

  • One count of attempted child rape

  • Four counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a child

  • One count of sexual assault of a child

  • One count of sexual assault of a child under 13

  • One count of assault of a child under 13

  • One count of indecency with a child

  • One count of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

Johnson was also given a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years and has to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.

Following the case, Catherine Ainsworth, senior district crown prosecutor, CPS Yorkshire and Humberside, said: “This defendant has been found guilty of appalling abuse.

“I would like to commend the considerable bravery of the victim in this case for reporting these matters to the police and in providing evidence which enabled us to build a robust case against him.

“I hope that the significant sentence handed down and the knowledge that Johnson will now be behind bars for a considerable period of time has given some comfort.”
