Pervert who preyed on young girls jailed for 14 years

A pervert has been jailed after pleading guilty to a catalogue of sickening sexual offences against young girls.

Paul Edward Seville, 47, of Windermere Road in Langley, Middleton , was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Minshull Steet Crown Court for 15 offences committed against five victims stretching back over 10 years.

The charges include:

  • Two counts of rape of a child under 13

  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration

  • Five counts of sexual activity with a child under 16

  • Two counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13

  • Three counts of sexual assault.

Seville was told by Judge Maurice Greene that he will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence in custody before he can apply for parole and will also be on licence for five years after his release.

The attacks against the girls – some of whom were as young as nine at the time of the abuse – began in 2004.

Seville’s crimes took place over a 10 year period and only came to end when his victims went to the police to report his offences.

The court heard that one victim made a complaint in 2013 leading to Seville being interviewed. However, she later retracted her allegations because she did not think she would be believed.

But after other victims came forward she told police the reasons she gave for her retraction were not true and she stood by her initial allegations.

Judge Greene told Seville that the fact he continued to offend even after being interviewed in 2013 was a ‘seriously aggravating’ factor in the case.

He said: “You were interviewed in 2013 on a complaint, yet subsequent to that you continued to abuse some of these girls and it seems you lack any insight into the harm you were doing to these children.”

He also told Seville that his ‘grooming behaviour’, the persistence of his abuse over a 10 year period, the targeting of his victims and the evidence that some of his offences were planned were all taken into account as part of his ‘overall criminality’.

He added: “It is the view of your probation officer that you do pose a risk of serious harm to children and I’m satisfied you pose a significant risk of harm by committing further offences.”

Seville is also subject to a sexual harm prevention order, a restraining order and will remain on the sexual offenders register indefinitely.
