Family man jailed for sex attacks on 13-year-old
A family man subjected a young girl to a series of sickening sex assaults for nearly three months.
Shaun Burrows repeatedly interfered with the teenager in 2012.
At Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday the pervert was jailed for two years after being told his shocking behaviour towards his victim, who was only 13-years-old at the time, would never be tolerated by society.
The shamed 24-year-old was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
Burrows was arrested after a police probe and charged on indictment that on various occasions between March 1 and June 5, 2012 at a house in Denny and elsewhere he engaged in sexual activity with a girl born in February, 1999 by kissing and touching her intimately.
He was also convicted of sending the youngster sexually explicit text messages.
Burrows had denied the offences, but was found guilty after a trial in October and had sentence deferred for social workers to complete background reports on him.
In court Sheriff John Mundy was asked to spare Burrows, who lives with his partner and their child in Lodge Tower, Motherwell, jail.
His defence agent said: “He accepts this is a serious matter and appreciates that custody might be at the forefront of your mind, but he has a partner and child and hopes to go to college. He has been the subject of a community payback order before and willing to comply with another one.”
Sheriff Mundy made it clear, however, that a community-based sentence was not an option he was considering.
He told Burrows: “The jury convicted you of two charges that I consider to be very serious.
“Activities of this nature, particularly against a 13-year-old girl, cannot and will not be tolerated in our society.”
