Paedophile jailed after abusing young girl

A paedophile pensioner has been jailed after he was found guilty of a string of sexual offences against a young girl

Michael Mavrides, 67 of Barnet, Herts pleaded not guilty at Wood Green Crown Court to multiple sexual offences

  • Sexual assault on a child aged under 13

  • Inciting or causing a child aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity

Due to his not guilty plea, he forced the 10 year old victim to face cross examination in court. However he was found guilty by jury at his trial of all the charges he had faced

The incidents took place over a two year period, when the girl was aged between eight and ten and involved molesting and sexual assaults

The court heard that Mavrides had befriended the parents of the girls, to get close to the child of which he eventually groomed for sexual activity

The pre-sentence report said Mavrides posed a medium risk of harm to young girls in the future

The court was told that Mavrides is active in the second hand motor trade.  He can be very charming and is highly manipulative

The judge said: “The right sentence it seems to me, is one that achieves four years imprisonment and that is the sentence I pass. It will be concurrent on each of the six charges.”

” You will on license after your release, and you be on the sex offenders register indefinitely and will be subject to a sexual offences prevention order”
