Man who photographed young girl and also had more than 4,000 indecent images of children walks free from court
A man who admitted possessing more than 4,000 indecent images of children – and took a picture of a young girl himself on his mobile phone – has avoided time behind bars.
Mark Henderson, of Hampden Gardens in Cambridge, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of taking an indecent photograph of a child.
The 38-year-old was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court today (August 10), where he was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Henderson was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for 15 years in a bid to prevent any further behaviour.
Prosecutor Stephen Mather told the court that Henderson admitted possessing indecent images of children to a social worker back in August last year.
He said: “The defendant admitted to her that he had these images and that is how these offences were reported by police. He was then arrested.
“When his house was searched various devices were found, and on those devices were a total of 4,058 indecent images of children.
“These included 4,006 category C images, 82 category B images and three category A images – the most serious.”
In police interview, Henderson admitted searching the internet to find the images before saving them on his computer and copying them onto storage devices.
He also admitted taking an indecent photo of a young girl, who was five to six years old at the time, on his mobile phone.
Mr Mather added: “The defendant told police he may have got sexual gratification from taking the image.
“He said he had fallen in love with the young girl but wanted to get his life back on track.
