CAB boss GUILTY of watching child abuse on work laptop
A former Citizen’s Advice Bureau manager has been handed a suspended sentence after being found guilty of watching child abuse films on his office laptop.
Brian Dean took an old laptop home and used it to watch two movies which showed young girls taking part in sexual acts with adult men.
He is a former manager at the Paignton CAB but left his job in 2015 after police raided his family home and seized the laptop from the lounge.
They found a total of 48 photographs of movies including two which were downloaded at around the same time as the computer was used to access Dean’s two e-mail accounts.
Dean, aged 56, now of Budock Terrace, Falmouth, denied three counts of making indecent images of children.
He was found guilty of one count of making two indecent images but cleared of the rest after telling a jury that many other people at the CAB had access to the laptop.
He was jailed for six months, suspended for a year by Recorder Mr Rufus Taylor at Exeter Crown Court.
He was ordered to sign on the sex offenders register and made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which will enable the police to monitor his future internet usage.
The judge told him: “I interpret the verdict as being that you were convicted of downloading two category A movies which the prosecution were able to time and date. The jury disbelieved you and your evidence.”
During a two day trial the jury were told there was file sharing software on the computer from a website which may have been used to download the material from the internet.
All but two of the images had been deleted. Among the titles of the movies was an abbreviation for pre teen hard core. Others titles suggested the movies involved girls of seven or eight.
Brian Fitzherbert, prosecuting, said police raided Dean’s former home at Pines Road, Paignton, on June 19, 2015 and seized a number of devices.
The only one on which any offensive material was found was an Acer laptop which was kept in the living room and which Dean’s wife Sally says was only used by him.
There were three movies and six stills in the worst category A, which denotes penetrative sex with children
