Pervert who sexually assaulted young girl jailed for 4 years and 9 months
A pervert who sexually abused a girl has been jailed for four years and nine months.
Michael William Harvey, of Rockcliffe Lane, Bacup, was found guilty after an eight-day trial of sexual activity with a child and sexual assault.
The 60-year-old sexually assaulted the victim by groping her bottom, chest, groin and stomach and also removed her clothes in an attempt to ‘humiliate her’.
Preston Crown Court heard in text messages sent to the girl, Harvey ‘flattered her’ by telling her she was ‘hot, seriously gorgeous, stunning, very attractive and sexy’.
The court was told that Harvey asked the victim for a hug then sexually assaulted her.
Prosecutor Emma Kehoe previously told the jury when Harvey was arrested and interviewed he denied his crimes and told officers that he was a ‘touchy feely kind of person’.
However Judge Philip Parry said the jury found Harvey’s ‘excuses to be nonsense’ and that his actions were ‘far more sinister than that’.
He told the defendant that his behaviour was ‘reprehensible’ and that it ‘had a profound affect’ on the victim.
Sentencing, he said “You are in my judgement utterly deluded and failed to see what the jury saw clearly.
“You continue to deny the offences and said the touching was playfulness.”
Joanna Rodikis, defending, said: “It’s clearly not a case where I can make any comment in relation to the facts.
“He’s always been industrious.
“In every other respect and walk of life he is highly considered.
“This [prison sentence] will have an enormous impact on him.”
