Child abuse operation snares four south Essex paedophiles
FOUR south Essex men have been brought to justice as a result of a highly-successful police crackdown on offenders who are downloading, taking and distributing indecent images of children online.
Since November last year, a dedicated team of specialist officers have executed 44 warrants and arrested 43 people. This has led to 29 people being charged and a further 11 sentenced. In total 46 children have been safeguarded.
This month, Tony Potter, 37, of Collingwood Road, Vange, admitted making more than 100 indecent images of children following a warrant at his home on January 6 this year.
Officers seized a laptop and computer tower. Analysis of the equipment found 131 indecent images, which included 13 images in the most serious category of abuse.
He was ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, take part in a 90-day rehabilitation programme and was put on the sex offenders register for five years.
Robert Hope, 21, of Lambourne Crescent, Basildon, was caught with indecent films and photographs of children when officers raided his home on January 5.
