Boy was left to fend for himself by his mum – then he was abused by this sick pervert
A paedophile who preyed on a vulnerable young boy has been jailed.
Robie Goldwell, 44, preyed on the youngster after his mother left him to fend for himself on numerous occasions, Hull Crown Court heard.
He targeted the 12-year-old boy by making him meals, before making him watch homosexual pornography and sexually assaulting him.
Goldwell, of Peel Street, west Hull, denied sexually assaulting the boy and insisted he felt sorry for him because of his family situation.
He was convicted of three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child under 13, meeting a child following sexual grooming, causing a child to watch a sexual act and the sexual assault of a child under 13, following a trial at Hull Crown Court.
In mitigation, John Thackray said Peel was a naive man and that the offending was “isolated”.
Mr Thackray said: “While not meaning to diminish the convictions, the courts see examples that are far more worse than this court is dealing with today.
“This is someone who is very naive. He told the jury he had once been accused of something similar before, which came as a shock to me.
“It was wholly unnecessary and unhelpful to his case. He is emotionally immature.”
The court heard Peel had been in a long-term relationship with a man who was standing by him despite his conviction for sexual assault.
Mr Thackray said: “This will be his first taste of custody and it will hit him very hard.”
Judge Simon Jack sentenced Peel to four-and-a-half years in prison.
An extra month was added onto his sentence after he failed to attend court on the first day of his trial.
Judge Jack said: “Your victim was vulnerable and that’s why it was easy for you to get him into your home.”
Peel was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must register as a sex offender for life.
