Paedophile has his jail term reduced by Appeal Court
A paedophile who told his West Yorkshire victim it was ‘their secret’ has had his jail term slashed by senior judges.
Lee Thomas Morgan, 49, of Tame Close in Walsall, was a teenager when he sexually molested a young boy in Halifax decades ago.
He made the boy perform a sex act on him and performed the same act on the youngster.
Morgan then committed a further serious sex offence on the young boy, Judge Rupert Mayo told London’s Appeal Court.
He told the boy ‘it was their secret’ and it was not until years later that the victim felt able to reveal what happened to him.
Morgan was locked up for eight years at Bradford Crown Court on June 23.
He admitted indecent assault, indecency with a child and a serious sexual offence.
Morgan had been caged for seven years at Teesside Crown Court in October 1995 for other sex crimes, the court heard.
Jayne Beckett, for Morgan, argued his latest jail term was far too tough and should be reduced.
He had committed no sex offences since the 1995 conviction and he had completed a two-year sexual offender rehabilitation programme while behind bars.
Not enough account had been taken of those factors and his own youth when he preyed on the Halifax boy, she argued.
The barrister also pointed to assistance Morgan had given to police in an unrelated matter.
“We do accept the submission that the overall sentence was manifestly excessive,” ruled Judge Mayo.
The judge, sitting with Mr Justice Stuart-Smith, reduced Morgan’s jail term to five years.
