Pervert pensioner jailed after getting schoolgirl to perform sex act on him

Pervert pensioner Phillip Thornton has been jailed after getting a schoolgirl to perform a sex act on him.

The 70-year-old incited the girl – who was aged under 13 – to touch him sexually and perform the act.

The abuse was reported years later and the defendant denied the allegations.

He went on trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court charged with indecent assault, indecency with a child and indecency towards a child.

But Thornton, of Burnaby Road, Sandyford, was found guilty of indecency with a child and has been jailed for four years.

Prosecutor Richard McConaghy said the victim can recall the defendant asking her to rub some powder on his private parts.

The victim confided in her boyfriend years later and he called the NSPCC. She reported the matters to police in 2017.

Recorder Heeley QC told Thornton: “You fall to be sentenced for a serious offence. On one occasion you got your victim to perform a sex act on you.

“I have seen you protest your innocence but you were found guilty by a jury. It involved the touching of your naked genetalia.

“There was a significant disparity in age.”

Thornton was made the subject of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life.
