Pervert jailed for 3 years

A pervert who went on the run has been jailed after he was spotted by an ECHO reader.

Stephen Lionel Gordon was jailed for three years at Liverpool crown court yesterday after running away from the supervised hostel he had been ordered to live in.

The 45-year-old paedophile, who has convictions dating back more than 30 years for indecently assaulting young girls, absconded from his bail hostel in December but was not caught until April, after an appeal in the ECHO.

Days after the appeal a reader spotted Gordon and reported him.

DI Dave McCaughrean said: “I would like to thank the public and the ECHO for their assistance in tracking this man down.”

David Evans, prosecuting, told Liverpool crown court that in March 1998, Gordon, of no fixed address, was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

In December 2001, Gordon was also banned from unsupervised contact with children.

Mr Evans said he was released from a prison sentence in 2006 and resumed contact with a family with children.

Video clips on Gordon’s phone showed him with a young girl, but the images were not of a sexual nature, the court heard.

It was soon after that he disappeared.

Gordon pleaded guilty to breaching the sexual offences prevention order and to breaching the requirements of the sex offenders’ register.

The court heard he had committed the same offence on a previous occasion and had received a two-year prison sentence.
