Perth pervert admits showing indecent image to officers

A Perth pervert and serial sex pest, currently serving 25 months behind bars, showed two female prison officers drawings of a penis and a sex act at the Edinburgh Road jail.

Forty-seven-year-old Robert Basterfield, of Feus Road, will discover his fate on September 17 after background reports have been prepared.

He was to have faced trial before a jury last week on three charges but pled guilty to an amended single offence.

He admitted that between November 28 and December 14, 2018, at Perth Prison, he intentionally caused the two staff members to look at the sexual images.

He also showed them a hand drawing of male and female genitalia with the name of one of their female colleagues written next to it.

He was subject to a May 1, 2018, bail order from the Perth court at the time.

The background to the incident will be given next month.

Basterfield was given the lengthy prison term earlier this year after a catalogue of incidents in which he subjected women to “unwanted and improper conduct which caused them all fear, alarm and distress.”

He was given a 21-month jail term for sending a graphic picture of himself to a woman who previously worked with people suffering from social exclusion.

He also had a 10-year sexual offences prevention order imposed, as well as an 18-month non-harrassment order, prohibiting him from approaching, contacting or communicating with the woman who was involved with a group Basterfield previously attended.

He sent her a picture of his erect penis, along with the vile caption: “So f***ing hard right now.”

Basterfield also had another four-month consecutive jail term imposed for stalking a young woman in Perth city centre in April, 2018.

The court was told that Basterfield had been remanded to the Perth jail since October 15, 2018
