One of latest men to sign perverts’ register

A sex offender is waiting to learn his fate after he admitted attempted sexual communication with a child.

Martyn Vaughan, 28, pleaded guilty to trying to communicate with a person “purporting to be under 16” for sexual gratification between November 25, 2017 and January 8, 2018.

He also admitted two charges of making indecent photographs of children – 24 images on a phone – between October 2017 and January 2018.

And he admitted distributing one indecent picture of a child, in the most serious legal category, on a phone on January 7 last year.

Stephen Constantine, defending, said: “There’s something of a background as far as this defendant is concerned.

“He does not have any previous convictions for similar offences.”

He asked for sentencing to be adjourned for psychiatric and pre-sentence reports at Teesside Crown Court.

Judge Deborah Sherwin told Vaughan: “I cannot sentence you today because there need to be different reports prepared about you before a judge can pass sentence.

“Because of your guilty pleas you’re now required to register as a sex offender.”

She bailed Vaughan, of Sheriff Street, Hartlepool, until he is sentenced on February 5 next year.

She added: “None of this is give any promises. Ultimately the judge who deals with you will have much more information about you than I have today.

“All options will be open.”
