Paedophile arranged online to meet and carry out sickening sexual abuse
A paedophile who arranged online to meet and carry out the sickening sexual abuse of a child was jailed.
Colin Mooney, 31, groomed the child on the web but was arrested in May after turning up for a face-to-face meeting.
Depraved Mooney, of Ormskirk Road, Skelmersdale, admitted offences of arranging and facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and attempting sexual communication with a child.
He was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Thursday, December 19th to four years imprisonment with an extra two years on licence.
Detective Constable Kate Molloy, of Lancashire Police CID, said: “Colin Mooney is clearly a depraved individual and the content of his online discussions is frankly sickening.
“He is a dangerous man and I am satisfied that the jail sentence and orders imposed will help protect the public for some considerable time to come.
“Lancashire Constabulary will continue to target those who seek to abuse children and to put them before the courts.”
As Mooney was deemed a “dangerous person” he cannot be released until two thirds of the way through his sentence and he then has to prove to the parole board that he is not a risk to the public before being released.
He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
