Teaching assistant sentenced for child sexual offences

A teaching assistant at a special needs school in Oldham has been jailed after committing a number of sexual offences against two vulnerable schoolboys. 

Kieran Cotterill, 27 of Oldham appeared at Manchester’s Minsull St Crown Court where he was found guilty of:

  • Two counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child

  • Two counts of causing a child to watch a sexual act

  • Inciting a child to engage in sexual activity

The court heard that Cotterill had befriended the two male victims who were aged 13 and 14 years old.

Cotterill groomed and mainpulated the boys by sending them nude images of himself masturbating, telling the boys that it was natural and fun.

Cotterill who was also part of the management team for a local youth football team continued to send sexual messages and images to the boys with the clear intent of engaging them into sexual activity. 

The judge sentenced Cotterill to 20 months imprisonment and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for ten years

A restraining order for three years was also issued to prevent any contact with the victims
