Cambs paedophile jailed for ‘horrific abuse’

A man from Cambridgeshire has been jailed for 16 years after he admitted a string of vile offences against very young children.

Roger Vye, 55, of Odesy was sentenced on Friday (June 19) at Woolwich Crown Court after confessing to crimes which included the sexual assault of a child under 13, and making indecent photographs of children.

Vye – who previously lived in Dover in Kent – was arrested on October 22, 2019 at a location in London having arranged to sexually abuse a young child.

A subsequent search was conducted at an address in Odsey and electronic devices were seized and submitted for forensic analysis.

The analysis confirmed the presence of a large collection of indecent images of children and also confirmed that Vye had a long-standing interest in the sexual abuse of children. Vye had distributed some of these images to other offenders online.

Also recovered was evidence linking Vye to the historic sexual abuse of a child who had been subjected to a prolonged period of abuse which occurred in 2009 and 2010 in the Kent area.

At an earlier hearing on Wednesday, January 8 at Inner London Crown Court, Vye pleaded guilty to:

  • The attempted rape of a child under the age of 13

  • Two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration

  • Sexual assault of a child under 13

  • Arranging or facilitating the commission of child sex offence

  • Distributing indecent photographs of child/children

  • Making indecent photographs of children

  • Possessing extreme pornographic images

  • Possessing prohibited images of children

In addition to 16 years’ imprisonment, he faces a further five years on extended licence.

Vye will be issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which includes preventing him with associating with any child under the age of 18, and he will be subject to Sex Offender Registration for life.
