Convicted paedophile caught in paedophile hunting sting

An already convicted paedophile who was caught by a paedophile hunting team attempting to meet a 13 year old girl following sexual grooming has finally appeared in court after going on the run.

Colin John Hodge, 56 of Plymouth appeared at Blackpool Magistrates Court where he made no plea to the following charges:

  • Adult attempting to meet a female child aged under 16 following grooming

  • Three counts of possessing indecent images of children

The case has now been transferred to Preston Crown Court.

The court was told that Hodge who was already on the sex offenders register following an earlier conviction of possessing indecent images of children contacted who he believed was a 13 year old girl via an online app in 2018.

Hodge sent a number of highly sexually explicit messages with the full intention of grooming and engaging the child into sexual activity.

The pervert went on to tell the child that he had also sexually assaulted his own daughter. However, Hodge later made it clear that it was just fantasy and did not happen.

After weeks of grooming, Hodge arranged to meet the child at Plymouth train station.

When Hodge arrived, he was confronted by paedophile hunting team The UK database who asked him if he was speaking to any underage girls online. Hodge, said yes, and that she was 13.

The team told Hodge that, they were there on behalf of another team called No more Silent Voices who had set up the account of a child.

The team called the police and Hodge was arrested.

Police analysed his devices to gather evidence of the grooming and found child sexual abuse images of very young girls

Earlier this year, Hodge was meant to appear in court in relation to the above, but went on the run. He was finally located at the end of June.

After his latest court appearance, Hodge was given conditional bail, to appear at Preston Crown Court at a later date for trial.
