Arrogant paedophile shakes his head at judge as he’s jailed
An arrogant and remorseless paedophile shook his head as the judge jailed him.
Patrick Loveless, 63, of Penarth, shook his head in the dock as he was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls at an earlier trial.
The court heard he sexually assaulted one girl on two occasions and another girl on one occasion.
In a victim personal statement read out to the court by prosecutor Clare Wilks, one of the victims said she still suffered nightmares about what Loveless did to her. She said: “I was shocked, uncomfortable and disgusted by what happened to me but as time went on I had to accept it.”
The victim added: “I confided in a friend which led to her telling other friends in school which resulted in bullying and I had to move schools. Overall I have had to move on and start fresh.
“I think it’s going to be with me for the rest of my life but I just have to accept what’s happened and and it makes you stronger when you get older.”
In a second victim personal statement the other victim said: “I didn’t think I’d be believed if I told anyone. I felt sadness and it impacted on my school work and I distanced myself from friends.”
She added that she still had dreams about the defendant and she felt angry he did not admit the offences.
Loveless, of St David’s Crescent, Penarth, was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13 and one count of sexual assault of a girl aged over 13 in relation to the two victims who have life long anonymity.
Defence barrister Andrew Davies said his client maintained his innocence and said his client was “well-loved” and would be “much-missed” while in jail.
Judge Michael Fitton QC said Loveless had “changed his victims’ lives forever”. He added: “It’s your responsibility and standing shaking your head, as you shook your head to the jury, does nothing for you.
Loveless was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison and will face the parole board before release.
He was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely.
