East Kilbride perv avoids jail after asking teen to meet him for sex
A repeat offender who asked a 14-year-old girl to meet him for sex has avoided jail despite a sheriff admitting he deserved to be locked up.
Connor Kennedy also asked the girl about her sexual history and tried to get her to send him pictures of her undressed.
Kennedy, 23, of Montreal Park, East Kilbride, was put on the sex offenders’ register for five years at Hamilton Sheriff Court
He admitted sending the girl messages of a sexual nature via social media over a six-month period last year.
The court heard Kennedy has a previous conviction for a similar offence.
Kennedy will be under supervision for three years and must undergo counselling if required from the community learning disability team.
The sheriff banned him from any unsupervised contact with children under 16 and from frequenting places where children gather, such as schools and playparks.
He will also have restrictions placed on his internet use.
Kennedy was also given a four-month electronic tagging order that bans him from leaving home between 7pm and 7am each day.
Earlier this year Kennedy sparked a police search and appeal for his whereabouts as his offences came to light.
Police Scotland launched a missing persons appeal after the perv fled from his home on February 15.
He was later traced safely
It’s not the first time he has been arrested in relation to such offences.
He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court in April 2016 where he denied sending sexual messages to a 12-year-old girl via social media.
He further denied breaching a court order by approaching and making contact with the same girl at McDonalds in the town’s Princes Mall.
He pled not guilty to both charges but was later convicted of the offence.
