Huddersfield paedophile downloaded video of 8-year-old being raped

A paedophile from Huddersfield downloaded thousands of images of child abuse – including a video of a child being raped.

Craig Cartin was caught with more than 8,000 indecent images – some of which were in the most serious category – after deleting them.

The 45-year-old was handed a suspended sentence today (Tuesday) after pleading guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

Prosecutor Mark McKone said police received information on November 23, 2017 that indecent images of children had been downloaded from BitTorrent using Cartin’s IP address.

He said officers attended his home on Crescent Road in Birkby around nine months later and seized his mobile phone and laptop.

The devices were found to contain 15 videos in category A – the most serious category.

They also contained two videos in category B and more than 8,000 photos and videos in category C.

Most of the images had been deleted.

Mr McKone said examples of the contents included a woman abusing a girl aged between two and three and the rape of an eight-year-old girl.

Leeds Crown Court was told Cartin had used search terms including ‘jailbait’ and ‘paedo’.

Cartin, who had no previous convictions, indicated that he would plead guilty at his first hearing at Kirklees Magistrates Court.

He was handed a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity.

He was also made subject to a seven-year sexual harm prevention order.
