Paedophile care worker took own life days after child porn court admission

A sacked care worker killed himself less than 48 hours after pleading guilty in court to having sick child sexual abuse images on his mobile phone.

Frank Foley, 52, appeared in court on the morning of Friday, November 20 and admitted possessing videos of young boys and girls being abused.

Police were called to his flat in Edinburgh’s Craigmillar area on the Sunday afternoon after receiving a report of his death.

Foley was due to appear for sentencing at the city’s sheriff court on Tuesday after it was deferred last month for reports.

His defence agent Jim Stephenson confirmed his client had passed away shortly after the previous court appearance.

Fiscal depute Heather Carmichael told Sheriff Chris Dickson that prosecutors had been alerted by police about Foley’s death on November 22.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 2pm on Sunday, November 22, officers were called to a property in the Peffermill Road area of Edinburgh following the sudden death of a 52-year-old man.

“There were no suspicious circumstances and a report was submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Last month’s hearing was told the indecent videos possessed by Foley had titles including “pre-teen hardcore” and “11 or 12-year-old boy gay exhibition”

Fiscal depute Rosie Cook said police swooped on Foley’s home on January 31 after being granted a search warrant.

Foley and his wife were home at the address, she said.

Officers seized a mobile phone belonging to Foley and its later examination found child rape videos had been accessed on it, the court was told.

Ms Cook said 11 were at the Category A – or worst – level, with one referring in its title to featuring a girl aged just ten.
