Paedophile who sexually abused underage girl before she took her own life jailed

A paedophile who groomed a underage girl for sex before she took her own life was jailed for five-and-a-half years.

Michael Jenkins was aged 28 when he first kissed his ex-partner’s 14-year-old half-sister Georgia Myers after a party in his Leeds flat.

The pair agreed to begin a ‘relationship’, which wasn’t reported to police until around 10 months later.

Jenkins promised her that they would legally be together when she turned 16 in August 2018 but two days before her birthday he told her he had got a woman pregnant.

The day before her birthday, he claimed police had told them they could not legally be together and she took her own life.

Last month, the 32-year-old dad, who had moved from his Middleton flat to Bodmin Crescent, Belle Isle, Leeds, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child.

The defendant was added to the sex offenders register for life and made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
