Stoke-on-Trent pervert who downloaded 1,023 indecent images of children avoids jail

Pervert Grant Mitchell downloaded 1,023 indecent images of children.

The 29-year-old downloaded the sick images which involved children – aged eight to 10 – being sexually abused.

Police discovered the images after visiting his address in October, 2019. They seized a laptop, PC and two hard drives.

Now Mitchell has avoided being jailed at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. He will be monitored by a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and the Sex Offenders’ Register for the next 10 years.

Mitchell, of Albany Road, Hartshill, pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent images of children, as well as possessing an extreme pornographic image and possessing a prohibited image of a child

Judge Sally Hancox described the defendant as a ‘troubled individual’. She handed him a three-year community order. It includes a sex offender group work programme, a mental health treatment requirement, and a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Judge Hancox told Mitchell: “You must understand that these images show real children, somewhere, having significant sexual harm done to them. They are images of children being sexually abused.
