83-year-old man jailed for sexual abuse against young girl

A pensioner has been jailed for 21 years for raping and indecently assaulting a young girl in the 1980s.

Anthony Frederick Gardner was found guilty of a total of 12 offences following a trial at Coventry Crown Court last week.

A jury convicted the 83-year-old of 10 counts of indecent assault and two counts of rape – all offences were committed against a young girl.

The attacks took place between January 1, 1984, and December 31, 1989.

Gardner, of Henry Boteler Road, Canley, was jailed for 21 years, but is already on the sex offenders’ register for life having been convicted a few years ago for other sexual offences against children.

He was jailed back in 2014 for six years for six counts of indecent assault on a girl aged under 13 in 1979 and one count of inciting the same victim to commit an act of gross indecency with/towards him on an occasion between 1981 and 1984, as well as two counts of sexual assault and one of causing a girl to engage in sexual activity against a second girl, also aged under 13, between 2004 and 2006.
