Depraved babysitter abused toddler and sent videos to paedophile lover in Exeter

A depraved babysitter who sexually abused a toddler in her care and sent videos to her paedophile lover has been jailed.

Paige Poole, 29, and Ross Kingsland, 44, met on an extreme fetish website and described each other as sharing the same ‘black heart’.

Poole filmed herself sexually abusing the child and sent the images to Kingsland, a married man living in Exeter, who encouraged her vile behaviour.

The pair appeared at Exeter Crown Court to be sentenced for a long list of horrifying offences committed against a child.

Poole, an American who was living in the capital at the time, was jailed for 17 years, including four years on extended licence.

Kingsland was sentenced to 15 years, also including the extended term.

Judge David Evans said: “You were both adults who knew what you were doing each and every step of the way. Each chose to plan and enact their deviant desires. This was a true meeting of wicked minds.

“The bald truth is that each of you is a morally corrupt paedophile and it was the great misfortune of others that you found each other. You have deliberately and together caused the most awful distress to a good number of people. You have destroyed the lives of individuals and families concerned.”

Prosecutor, Mr Jason Beal, told the court pair were tracked down in the summer of 2020.

Poole, who had arrived in the UK in 2018 and married an Englishman, turned up on the doorstep of Kingsland’s family home in Exeter.

She claimed to be his girlfriend and said she was worried about where her was.

It turned out the pair had met on an online adult sex party website called ‘Killing Kittens’. He travelled to meet Poole in London and the pair started a relationship.

They began sharing their paedophile desires and police found hundreds of messages between the pair setting out their wish to have children together in order to abuse them.

Kingsland and Poole conspired together to abuse a one-year-old child, said Mr Beal. Poole sexually abused the child on numerous occasions.

The pair would then send each other WhatsApp messages detailing what had happened. Kingsland would enthusiastically respond by calling Poole ‘my Dark Angel’. He told her: “You make my black heart so happy” and sent emojis.

Poole could be heard laughing while committing some of the abuse.

Poole pleaded guilty to multiple sexual offences again the child. They included eleven sexual assaults, conspiracy to assault a child, engaging in asexual activity with a child, taking indecent photos of a child, and distributing indecent photos of a child.

She also admitted conspiracy to rape a second girl.

Mr Beal said this offences related to Kingsland travelling to London and visiting Poole’s address, although there was no evidence he had actually physically abused any child.

The court heard a harrowing victim impact statements from the parents of both children.

They said it was impossible to put into words the level of distress their pair’s actions had caused. They will suffer a life sentence knowing they could not protect their children from Poole’s abuse and found it difficult to trust anyone with the children again.

They described her as ‘dangerous, calculating and conniving’.

Kingsland pleaded guilty to multiple offences.

They included conspiracy to assault a child under 13, aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of a child, conspiracy to rape a child, distributing indecent photos of a child and making indecent photos of a child.

At the time of the offences, he had already come to the attention of the Metropolitan Police who were investigating online paedophiles.

Kingsland had made contact via an online chat group with someone he thought was a fellow child abuser. It turned out to be an undercover police officer.

He arranged to meet the officer in the hope of abusing children aged eight and 12.

He shared a video of a woman abusing a child and planned to visit London, complaining that lockdown was getting in the way. He was arrested by police in July last year.

It was while he was in custody that Poole turned up at his home in Exeter. At first she expressed shock at his behaviour but when police checked her phones they found evidence of their shared desires and the sickening videos she had tried to delete.

Kingsland has a previous conviction dating back to 2012 for exposing himself two 12-year-old girls. Poole has minor convictions for driving offences in the US.
