Paedophile sentenced after repeatedly abusing young girl

A paedophile has been sentenced after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against a young girl.

Richard Lewington, 60 of Seaford, East Sussex appeared at Lewes Crown Court where he was found guilty of eight sexual offences including:

  • Rape of a female child

  • Indecent assault on a female child

The court was told that Lewington who has ran a mobile disco in the past but who was recently employed as a builder began grooming the victim when she was aged nine years old.

Lewington began sexually touching or molesting the child, but soon the abuse escalated to rape which continued over a number of years.

In his defence, Lewington told the court that it was not abuse, but an affair or sexual relationship that the child had agreed to. However, the judge quickly dismissed this on legal terms as a child cannot consent to sexual activity.

The court was told that Lewington who is better known locally as ‘Lew’ was supported by his wife and that she would welcome him home once he is released.

The judge sentenced Lewington to a total of twelve years

A sexual harm prevention order was imposed and he was told to register as a sex offender for life.
