Paedophile groomed ‘extremely vulnerable’ child for sex
A paedophile groomed a vulnerable child before engaging her into sexual intercourse
Jason Thomas, 40, later told the girl that he’d be going to prison but the feeling of the encounter was “the best feeling he’d ever had”.
Thomas, of Pendeen, appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentence having pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and engaging in sexual communication with a child.
Prosecuting the case, Peter Coombe told the court how the victim developed a crush on the defendant.
The victim was asked by a cousin who she was texting continuously and she replied that it was the defendant and they had sex on three occasions, however the prosecution conceded that Thomas was being sentenced on his account that sex only occurred the once.
The school and police then became involved and the victim told them she developed a crush on Thomas and they’d kissed, cuddled and exchanged explicit photographs before going on to meet for sex.
During his interviews Thomas confirmed much of what the victim had to say but said he stopped during the sex as he knew it was wrong.
Two years after the initial offences and as the investigation was continuing, those close to the victim were alerted to the possibility she’d again been in contact with Thomas.
The victim became angry but then admitted they’d been exchanging messages, including some with explicit pictures and sex talk.
Mr Coombe said: “The victim said the defendant told her he’d be going to prison but said the sex was the best feeling he’d ever had and that he was glad they did it.”
Sentencing Thomas, Judge Simon Carr said: “These were offences against a very vulnerable child. It was obvious she was a very troubled and damaged young child who needed protection not exploitation.
“It’s suggested she formed a crush on you and approached you but she was a child and you were an adult. Nothing she did mitigates in any way your behaviour.
“The communication became sexualised which I consider grooming and it escalated to you having full sex with a child. She tried to protect you but the truth came out.
“It didn’t end there. Two years later the communication resumed and that was entirely your responsibility. She was a child, you were an adult and there was again talk of sexual activity including full intercourse.”
Thomas was jailed for five years and made subject of a sexual harm prevention order. He must also sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
