Sex offender Paul Whyte caught speaking with ‘schoolgirls’

A pervert from Renfrewshire who is on the Sex Offenders Register for life was caught speaking to what he believed were three schoolgirls.

Paul Whyte, 54, was instead talking to a paedophile hunting group posing as two 13-year-olds and a 12-year-old.

Using the name ‘Garyshark,’ he communicated with the decoys on social media sites Tagged and Google Hangouts in July last year.

Prosecutor Mhairi Alexander told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “His chat was sexualised and would state the sexual activity he would like to take place.”

Whyte also made comments such as: “Don’t tell your mum about this.”

He was later arrested following a sting by the group at Glasgow Central train station.

Whyte admitted attempting to communicate sexually with children and breaching the terms of his Sex Offenders Register order.

It was revealed he has a High Court conviction for sexual offences from 2008 and is on the register for life.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Sean Murphy QC.

Whyte, of Paisley, had his remand in custody continued meantime.
