Victim of rapist: ‘I’m gutted. In my eyes the sentence isn’t long enough’

The woman raped by Andrew Brown admits his crimes will haunt her forever.

In an emotional statement read out in court, she admitted: “To this day I still have nightmares”.

A judge has jailed Brown for ten-and-a-half years for his campaigns of cruelty against women.

But one of those has slammed the sentence, adding she just doesn’t feel justice has been served.

“I’m gutted,” said the victim, who sat in court to watch Brown jailed.

“In my eyes it isn’t long enough,

“I don’t feel like I’ve got justice when he could be free walking the streets in five years.”

Both she and the rape victim may never have to see Brown in the flesh again after he was handed an indefinite restraining order against the pair.

But the woman he sexually assaulted admits she still fears her 25-year-old Netherfields attacker.

“I have always been an outgoing person with a lot of friends – I have not been that person for a long time,” she said.

“I have become unrecognisable.”

She admits she’s struggled to move on from the ordeal, adding: “I struggled to maintain relationships with friends and have become fearful of being hurt if I allow people close to me.

“To this day I still have nightmares during the night because of the things he done to me.

“I am still frightened of Andrew and for further harm if he seen me in public.

“I have been left with emotional scarring, I lived everyday in fear of violence both physically and sexually.

“I should not have been living my life in fear.

“The incident which occurred….will haunt me for the rest of my life.”

‘Cowardly and pathetic’ rapist Andrew Brown jailed for more than a decade for brutal attacks

Cowardly. Persistent. Aggressive. Pathetic.

Those were words used to describe rapist Andrew Brown as a judge jailed him for over a decade.

The 25-year-old was branded a “significant risk” to women after a jury convicted him of a sex attack which almost destroyed the victim’s life.

In court he was portrayed as manipulative monster, who controlled women and left them living in fear.

“In many ways you believed that you owned her,” said Recorder Nicholas Barker about the victim.

“At times you played with her emotions until they were frayed.

“You gained her confidence and then shattered it.”

Some of his victims bravely revealed the cruel physical and mental abuse Brown inflicted on them.

One claimed he even manipulated her into get a restraining order against her own parents.

And his ten-and-a-half year jail sentence includes 18 months for a beating against one woman that was so brutal, the skin peeled off his knuckle due to the ferocity of his punches.

Teesside Crown Court heard on Thursday he continued that attack even AFTER she fell unconscious.

In a statement, the assault victim – who he wasn’t convicted of raping – said she fled from Brown to stay at a pal’s house.

But she was so brainwashed by his controlling abuse, she would find herself asking the friend for permission just to go to the shop.

“No one should ever go through what I’ve gone through,” she said.

However both she and the rape victim may now never have to see Brown again after he was slapped with an indefinite restraining order against the pair.

Appearing via video link from Durham Prison, Brown displayed little emotion as he was sentenced – and was seen at times playing with his hair.

Brown, who denied the rape, was jailed for nine years for the sex attack alone.

He was handed a two-year sentence for a separate harassment which would run concurrently while an “unavoidable” 18 month sentence for the attack will run consecutively.

Brown, formerly of Tothill Avenue, Netherfields, must sign the sex offender’s register for life.
