Benwell paedophile caught with 345 disturbing videos of youngsters

A paedophile was caught with more than 300 disturbing videos of youngsters on his computer.

Paul Cleghorn, now living in Benwell, was found with the sickening collection, which also included vile images of children, at his former home in Kenton, Newcastle.

The 62-year-old’s disgusting stash included category A photos and videos, which are the most serious and involve penetrative sexual activity, a court heard.

In total, officers discovered 345 movies and 34 pictures.

Cleghorn, formerly of Ryal Walk, in Kenton, but now living in Gill Street, in Benwell, was arrested and appeared before magistrates in North Tyneside on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and one of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

Rebecca Gibson, prosecuting, said the Cleghorn collected the videos and photos over a three-month period between December 1 2018 and February 27 2019.

“The starting point for category A images is one year in custody. This case ought to be committed to the crown court for sentence.

“There are additional aggravating features in this case, which would actually take it past one year in custody.

“I know my friend is with me in relation to my assessment of this case.”

The court heard that Cleghorn was found with one image and 261 videos of category A, three images and 61 videos of category B and 30 images and 23 videos of category C.

Magistrates agreed and released Cleghorn on unconditional bail to next appear there on April 9.
