Paedophile jailed after grooming children he met playing online video games
A vile paedophile who groomed young boys he found during online video gaming sessions has been jailed.
Steven Flynn, of Albion Drive, Aspull, Wigan, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment, at Bolton Crown Court.
The 28-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, three counts of distributing indecent images, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity, attempting to arrange sexual activity with a child, and possession of a bladed article.
On February 8, 2018, Flynn contacted a 10-year-old boy that he had played online against, on Xbox One video game ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’, prosecution barrister Jonathan Savage told the court.
Flynn told the boy that he was 20-years-old and had a boyfriend.
After persuading the child to download messaging app Kik, the conversation ‘very quickly became intimate’.
He sent the 10-year-old a picture of him in his underwear and asked the boy to do the same.
The boy’s father discovered the messages on his son’s phone and contacted the police
In his interview, he admitted to possessing and distributing indecent images, contacting the 10-year-old and encouraging him to masturbate.
On May 18, police were made aware that Flynn had been in contact with what appeared to be a father and his young son, with Flynn attempting to arrange sex with the boy.
However, Mr Savage told the court that it is unclear whether that boy actually existed.
Upon arresting Flynn, officers also found a blade disguised as a credit card, which Flynn said was for protection when walking home at night.
Greater Manchester Police were later made aware of an investigation by West Yorkshire Police, involving an 11-year-old boy, who had been contact with Flynn in February 2018.
Flynn sent the boy a friend request on his Xbox One and told the boy he was 15-years-old, before persuading him to download Kik.
He asked to see the boy’s ‘beautiful smile and body just in your underwear’.
Flynn also sent a 11-year-old photographs of him in his underwear
During a video call, the boy saw that Flynn had a pornographic film on and could see him performing a sexual act.
The court was told that analysis of Flynn’s devices revealed there to be 130 moving and still images, that were in the most serious category (A)
There were also almost 1000 other vile images.
It was also discovered that he had distributed images of child sexual abuse to other paedos.
Sentencing Flynn to six years imprisonment, Recorder Nuttall said: “These are extremely serious offences, with many victims.
Recorder Nuttall imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order on Flynn and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for life
